CONDITIONAL SENTENCE TYPE III

 Students... Pekan lalu mister sudah jelaskan tentang conditional sentence type II, semoga kalian sudah paham walau belum 100%. Hari ini mister akan kenalkan kalian tentang conditional sentence type III. Sebelum itu, mohon pahami kembali tabel berikut, agar kalian bisa tambah paham materi sebelumnya dan yang akan mister sampaikan.

	If I had studied hard	I would have gotten best score

Well.. let’s start the explanation.

Conditional sentence type III atau yang biasa disebut dengan Unreal past conditional adalah sentence yang mendeskripsikan situasi pada kondisi past (waktu lampau) namun kalimat tersebut tidak berdasarkan pada fakta/ tidak nyata (unreal) dan tidak akan pernah terjadi.

Dalam Conditional sentence type III, bentuk dalam klausa 'if' adalah the past perfect, dan bentuk dalam klausa utama adalah the past conditional.

If + subject + past perfect ..... + { would/could/might } + have + past participle

Example:

·      If I had met my grandpa, I would have brought his favorite food.

Meaning   : I never met my grandpa, so I didn’t bring his favorite food.

Fact         : I never met my grandpa again because he has passed away.

 

Note:

·   If-clause dapat ditempatkan pada awal atau tengah kalimat. Jika if-clause ditempatkan pada awal kalimat, maka tanda koma harus ditempatkan sebelum main clause. Namun jika main clause ditempatkan pada awal kalimat, maka tidak harus diberikan tanda koma sebelum if-clause.

Contoh: If I have met my grandpa, I would have brought his favorite food.

I would have brought his favorite food if I have met my grandpa.

 

·   Perbedaan conditional sentence type II dengan type III adalah CS type II menunjukkan situasi yang tidak mungkin terjadi sekarang sedangkan CS type III menunjukkan situasi yang tidak akan pernah terjadi karena sudah lampau.
